West Virginia Bridge Program: WVDOH Load Rating, Design and Repair
1 PDH · about 60 minutes · Course no. BR-X11 · Instructor: Michael Craig, PE
About the instructor
Michael Craig, PE is Senior Vice President and Southeast Director at Strinteg Corporation, leading bridge inspection and structural engineering across eight states and Puerto Rico. In 27+ years he has inspected over 4,000 structures and completed 3,000+ load ratings and 160+ load tests. He has managed repair and preservation design for complex bridges, including cable-stayed bridges. He holds PE licenses in twelve states, DC and Puerto Rico, SPRAT Level 1, and FAA Part 107 credentials.
West Virginia's rugged terrain gives it a large inventory of steel bridges, truss bridges and long-span structures, including the New River Gorge Bridge. WVDOH's 2023 Bridge Load Rating Manual sets out a detailed list of West Virginia legal loads, ties rating timing to the inventory inspection, and requires posting based on strength rather than service limit states. This one-hour course covers those rules, the New River Gorge preservation work presented to the Southeast Bridge Preservation Partnership in Charleston in 2025, and WVDOH's Structure Directives for design and repair.
